About me
JAMAL VAN KASTEL
Parametric Design Specialist and Architectural Designer driven by an ambition to merge innovative computational design solutions with sustainable, integrated architectural design.
Working in a combined role as parametric design expert and architectural designer, I have over five years of hands-on experience working on a broad range of design projects ranging from initiation to definitive design.
My expertise lies in parametric design, where I harness the power of digital tools to bring innovative visions to life. Examples include:
design and optimization of façades of large public buildings, combining architecture, building physics and optimization through evolutionary algorithms;
tackling ambitious projects such as high-rise buildings, soccer stadiums and data centers with parametric design solutions;
urban planning and real estate development consultancy based on building program and urban physics optimization
I'm also a dedicated educator, teaching Grasshopper, Python and more to students at various levels, from first year Bachelor's students to Master's students in their final year. My commitment to knowledge sharing extends to presenting and conducting workshops for companies and academic institutions.
I am always eager to explore potential collaborations and am keen to get in touch. I would be happy to contribute on any of the following topics:
Providing presentations and workshops on Grasshopper and Python
Developing parametric design workflows and custom nodes (Grasshopper/Python)
Data conversion across multiple platforms (Grasshopper3d, Python, Excel, JSON, and more)
Multi-objective computational design optimizations (optimizing factors such as daylight, heat gain, views, and façade panelization)
Rationalizing complex parametric shapes
Creating dynamic parametric animations (both looping “gif” and dynamic diagrammatic videos)
